  • Rob Schlingmann, General Manager

      Rob joined The Plantation as General Manager in May of 2013. Rob spent the last 10 years as the General Manager/COO of The Apawamis Club, one of the oldest country clubs in the nation in Rye, NY. He also held leadership positions at Rehoboth Beach Country Club and Kiawah Island Club. His wealth of experience allows him to effectively oversee all dining, golf, tennis, fitness and administrative operations.

  • Melissa Angulo, Chief Financial Officer

      Melissa joined The Plantation in October 2018 and has over 17 years of accounting experience here in Northeast Florida.  Prior to joining The Plantation, she spent over five years in the Financial Accounting Advisory Services practice of Ernst & Young, focusing on transactions and technical accounting matters.  She has also held financial reporting and technical accounting roles at large public companies based in Jacksonville.  She received her bachelors and masters degrees in Accounting from Florida State University and is a CPA in Florida.  Melissa loves spending time with her husband, Lenny, and kids, Scarlet and Elijah.

  • Mike Romeo, Director of Property Management & ADB

      Mike joined The Plantation as Director of Security in November 2012 and was selected and promoted to Director of Property Management and Architectural Design Board Administrator in December 2017. Before joining the Plantation, Mike had a long and distinguished career in the United States Army. Mike began his military career as a Private, climbing up the ranks to Staff Sergeant Promotable and then was selected to become a Warrant Officer. Mike retired as a Chief Warrant Officer Four. Mike had numerous overseas deployments to include Korea, Germany, Afghanistan, and Iraq, where he earned a Bronze Star. Mike has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Troy University with certificates in PMP from Georgetown University and CCNA certification from Cisco. Mike’s last assignment in the Military was as both the Presidential Communications Program Manager and as a Presidential Communications Officer for President Obama. Mike recently got married in September 2017 to his wife Sherry, and together they have four children. Mike and Sherry enjoy weekend trips to play golf and tennis.

  • Harriet Sasser, Director of Security

      Harriet Sasser is a native of Neptune Beach, Florida and a graduate of Fletcher High School. Mrs. Sasser spent eight years in the United States Army, stationed in Germany serving in the 586th Maintenance Company as a Food Service Specialist. After her time abroad, Mrs. Sasser was then assigned to Fort Benning, GA with the 197 Support Battalion and then activated to 3rd Brigade 24th Infinity. She was deployed with the Ranger Battalion to Roosevelt Road’s Naval station, Puerto Rico, followed by a deployment to Desert Storm.

      In her civilian career, Mrs. Sasser has worked for Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort in Montego Bay, Goodwill Industries International, and The Naval Weapon Station in Goose Creek, South Carolina. Mrs. Sasser began her career at The Plantation in 2001. She began as contracted security, then as a full-time employee in 2003 joining the Mailroom team.  Shortly thereafter, she assumed the role of Assistant Security Supervisor. Mrs. Sasser enjoys spending her spare time with her husband and two children, Brandon and Jessica Madden.

  • Nancy Maunder, Director of Golf

      Nancy has been with The Plantation since 2001. Prior to The Plantation, she was Director of Golf for ten years at Montgomery Village Country Club, located near Washington, D.C. A Class A member of the PGA since 1987, Nancy was nominated for Golf's Top 100 Pro Shops, nominated for Teacher of the Year twice, and elected to serve on the PGA Board of Directors, Middle Atlantic Section. Prior to becoming a Club Professional, Nancy competed professionally while honing her skills and, after winning medalist honors in the LPGA Qualifying School, she became a member of the LPGA Tour in 1978.

  • Fred Theus, Director of Golf Course & Grounds Operations

      Prior to joining The Plantation in 2006, Fred was Director of Golf Course Operations for Hunters Run in Boynton Beach, overseeing maintenance of a 54 hole golf facility and all common property in a 900-acre development. Fred was Assistant Superintendent of the Sea Island Golf Course and Ocean Forest Golf Course, assisting in the construction of the Rees Jones course in 1993, and promoted to Golf Course Superintendent in 1996. He worked with Southern Golf Association and USGA to prepare Ocean Forest for the 1999 Southern Amateur and the 2001 Walker Cup Match. Fred also worked as Assistant Superintendent at Cherokee Rose Country Club. Fred received an Associate's Degree in Environmental Horticulture/Golf Turf Management from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education/Municipal Recreation from West Georgia University.
  • Lars Hakansson, Director of Tennis

      Lars has extensive experience in the tennis field both as Head Pro and Tennis Director for 12 years. He has managed busy tennis programs for men, women, and juniors at some of the finest clubs in south Florida and the Hamptons, Nantucket, and Maine. His ability to make each individual feel special and unique is an important factor in his work. Throughout the years he has also participated in many Pro-Ams and Exhibitions with such well-known players as Roscoe Tanner, Mikael Pernfors, Mats Wilander, Chris Evert and Tracy Austin.  In the 1990’s Lars was also ranked # 15 in the country for all Teaching pros.  After a very successful college career here at UNF, he turned pro and played all over the world. With his broad experience, Lars will be a great asset to our tennis program for many years!  
  • Brian McGowan, Assistant General Manager

      Brian joined The Plantation in August of 2014. His specialties include food and beverage operations and club management. He grew up in Havertown, Pennsylvania and received his B.S. in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Widener University. Brian has been in the private club industry for over twenty years and has a vast knowledge of the hospitality field. He relocated from the Philadelphia area, where he spent most of his career at Vicmead Hunt Club, Bidermann Golf Club, Llanerch Country Club and most recently Whitford Country Club.

      Brian received his CCM (Certified Club Manager) designation from the Club Manager's Association of America and has been actively involved in the local chapters throughout his career.

  • Craig Porter, Executive Chef

      Craig has been with The Plantation since January 1997, initially appointed as Executive Chef and later promoted to Club Manager and subsequently to Director of Club Operations. Prior to joining The Plantation, Craig was the Executive Chef for five years at the University Club and Orange Park Country Club with Club Corporation of America. Craig has been involved in hotels, restaurants and private clubs for well over twenty years. Honors include Apprentice of the Year 1986, Texas Chef's Association, Best in Show Honor 1988, Texas Restaurant Association, and Presidential Award CCA 1995.

      Craig has recently taken the helm again of The Plantation House and Beach House kitchens and catering operations as Certified Executive Chef with an exciting program of culinary offerings.

  • Julie Billings, Beach House Manager

      Julie has been with The Plantation since 2006. Prior to The Plantation, she was a Banquet Manager at Serenata Beach Club and was the Dining Room Manager for Shawn O'Donnell's Irish Pub in Everett, Washington. When Julie started working at The Plantation, she came on board as a server. After quickly showing her desire to learn different aspects of the club's operations, coupled with her strong work ethic, she took over The Beach House operations. Julie was a certified Lifeguard and is a Certified Pool Operator. She is currently enrolled in the Florida Club Managers Association of America future leaders program.

  • Kelly Earley, Catering Manager

      Kelly has been in the hospitality industry for over 18 years. She has worked most recently as a Catering Manager at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club.  She has also worked as a Special Event Manager for the Jacksonville Jaguars and ran her own wedding planning firm for over 8 years.  When not working, Kelly enjoys traveling, reading and practicing  Bikram yoga.  She also loves spending time with her husband, 13 years old twins and her English Bulldog, Porkchop. 

  • Tom Rice, Human Resources Manager
    • Tom has been with the Plantation since April of 2012 where he has been serving in the position of HR Manager.  Tom has more than 20 years experience in the HR field in a variety industries including non-profits and healthcare. He holds four degrees including a Masters in Human Resource Management and an MBA from the University of North Florida.  Tom is also certified by HRCI as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and by SHRM as a Senior Certified Professional (SCP).  Tom has resided in North Florida since 1970. He enjoys spending time with his son Alex and his family, especially their daughter and Tom’s granddaughter Abby.
