GOLF COURSE RENOVATION
The goal of the renovation project was to preserve the fundamental characteristics of the original design, while incorporating new technology and accommodating current trends so the course is as relevant to today’s golfers as the original course was to the golfers of the 1980’s and 1990’s.
Several key enhancements are expected to improve the overall playing experience, including:
· a greater variety of tees
· new greens built to USGA standards
· an expanded game development center
· an augmented drainage system
· a new, state-of-the-art irrigation system
· and the latest generation capillary bunker liner system
Woven in alongside these structural upgrades, is evidence of Letsche’s creativity, for which he has gained acclaim for his work as lead architect for Ernie Els design. Letsche thoughtfully and gently modified The Plantation course’s overall topography to improve drainage, enhance sight lines and create visual cues with bunkers, trees and mounding to indicate the optimal path from tee to green. In keeping with the original design philosophy, Letsche provided bail-out areas to save slightly errant shots, however the course remains unforgiving of a poorly hit attack shot which likely will end up in a penalizing bunker or the water.
